Destiny Of A Nation Is Shaped In Its Classrooms

A nation's fate, its rise or fall, begins where young minds first stand tall.   [SITUATION:] Friend 1: Look at all these names. Future engineers, writers, activists... Sometimes I wonder if what we do today really matters. Friend 2: It does! Think about it—every idea, every effort we make here builds the foundation for the country’s future. Friend 1: I don’t know. What difference can two students really make? Friend 2: Small steps lead to big changes. Someone in a classroom right now could be designing the next big invention, solving world-threatening problems, or leading a justice movement. And that could be you! Friend 1: Me? I’m just trying to finish my stupid assignments, not change the world. Friend 2: That’s where it starts! Education isn’t just about books and marks. Actually, scratch that about marks, it matters a little in getting jobs. But what’s important is that it’s about learning how to think, solve problems, and make a difference. Friend 1: Yo...

The Idea Of City-Wide Rooftop Gardens

Think about it, it’s a hot Sunday evening in the city. But instead of getting annoyed by the horns and calls of your colleagues, you’re standing on the top floor of the company building surrounded by hydrangeas, roses and butterflies. You are enjoying the breezes that is hitting your face. And below you? A scenery, not of steel and smoke, but of rooftops on top of buildings that stretch as far as the eye of a human can see. This is what we call a CITY WIDE ROOFTOP GARDENS. And this is not a joke, not an imagination nor a fantasy, it’s a reality that we can fabricate. But why now? Because of the challenges. Everything has its pros and cons. If you take the pro of developing the city, then the con of pollution and climate change comes. So, to eliminate it, we use city wide rooftop gardens. It’s not hard to make one. Just go to your rooftops, plant some soil, and grow some plants. Sounds easy enough. And, it is also said that plants are natural coolers, as they give shade and cool the air...

OUR DEEDS DETERMINE US, AS MUCH AS WE DETERMINE OURSELVES.

The world we see is shaped by thought, yet in its web, our minds are caught.   [SITUATION:] Judge’s Son (JAY): You still read those court files? After all these years? Judge (CAROL): Some cases never leave you. Not because of what they were… but because of who you became after them. JAY: You mean who you chose to become. CAROL: Yes. And who those choices made me. We think we shape our actions, Jay. But they shape us too—quietly, deeply. JAY: So what does that make us? Puppets of our past? CAROL: No. Just humans… carrying the weight of what we’ve done, and what it’s done to us. [cue in imaginary lightning] JAY: Maybe, it’s time you decide what you should do next.   [ESSAY:] Carol the Judge and her son Jay, set quite the mood. Haha, but the actual point of this whole thing is for a clear message to pass through our minds. And, that is that our deeds determine us, but those deeds are also determined by us. Didn’t understand it at first glance, did you? E...

THE ROLE OF YOUTH IN MAKING A BETTER NATION

Youth is the hope of our future bright, their passion and strength will set things right. Imagine a world where young minds take charge, drive change, and shape the future. History gives us inspiring examples of youth-led movements, like the Civil Rights Movement in the US, Fridays For Future in Europe, etc. Today, the responsibility lies with us, the today’s youth—to be the architects of a better nation. Good morning, respected Principal, teachers, and my fellow friends, I, Uttarayan, am present here to elaborate on the youth’s importance for today’s world and our potential to shape a better nation. The youth of any nation are its backbone. According to the UN, nearly 16% of the world's population is between the ages of 15 and 24. In India, youth make up over 50% of the total population. This demographic advantage gives us immense potential to bring about transformation in areas such as education, social justice, governance, etc. The energy, creativity, and ambition of young...

IF I COULD INVENT A GADGET, IT WOULD DO...

Trying to look something in the dark, but can’t find it? You can’t remember some event when you want to remember it, it happens to us sometimes, doesn’t it? So, If I could invent a gadget, then it would be ECHOLENS. It would be in the form of glasses, and would be having a camera recording each and every moment you’ve had in your life. So, if you are a detective, it is helpful to replay moments to solve mysteries by looking at what you missed. It would also have a night mode vision, which can help you look into the dark without any difficulty. Plus, it would come with a blue-light filtering glass, which allows you to become more glued to your screens, because parents won’t be able to complain about the blue light radiation. It would have a sensor which could sense emotions emitted by the brainwaves, and starts a conversation with the user to help them become happy or hopeful. And, lastly, it would be integrated with a GPS, which could help you locate where you are, and prevent you...

IF I COULD DISCOVER A NEW SPECIES, IT WOULD LOOK LIKE...

Have you ever wanted to leave this boring life, and find something new? To go out and explore into this vast world of ours that we live in. Wouldn’t that be exciting? And, if I could discover a new species, it would look like a wolfish-kind of creature but a little larger and more furry. It would be lightweight and agile, but vicious-looking yet tamable. It’s fur will be of a dark color hue, giving it a camouflaging look in the night and darkness, due to its nocturnal behaviour. It eyes would be icy blue, which can peek into the secrets of the forests at night. It would be found in places like cold forests or mountainous regions staying in dens.It would have a brain more intelligent than the students of today studying in school, who have only on brain cell. It would be like any other wolf, hunting on small animals, etc and rarely, a little herbivore diet. They would be called The Duskhound. Dusk for its ability to hide in shadowy areas and Hound, due to its wolfish look. It would ...

PROTECTING OUR OCEANS

The ocean's roar is music to the soul, protecting it should be our goal. You went to the beach, enjoying the sun and the waves. You see a dolphin swimming in the distance. You also notice a few plastic bottles floating nearby. This simple example highlights a much larger issue: the urgent need to protect our oceans. Our oceans are vital to life on Earth. They cover over 70% of our planet's surface and are home to an incredible diversity of life. Yet, they are under threat from pollution, overfishing, and climate change. If we do not act now, we risk losing these precious ecosystems forever. As responsible citizens, it is our duty to protect the environment. Scientists and environmentalists have long warned us about the coming danger. According to a study by Conservation International, marine protected areas can significantly benefit both reef biodiversity and coastal communities. These areas have 27% more fish than unprotected zones, and children living nearby are less li...

Need brings greed, If greed increases it spoils the breed...

Greed is a bottomless pit which exhausts the person in an endless effort to satisfy need without ever reaching satisfaction itself.   [SITUATION] Girl: I have no dresses in my closet to wear again so, time for shopping. Hey, this dress looks good, but this one also doesn’t look half-bad. Huh, oh, this one’s trash. Anhhh. O.M.G. That is the most beautiful dress, that I have seen. Do you have this in my size? No! Oh, well I’ll fit into it. How much are these three dresses? $2,500 each. Eh, no worries, I have got my own credit card. What, it declined. Looks like I’ll have to use daddy’s credit card. Cha-ching!! Oh, look there’s a call from him! Father: I gave that card to you only for emergencies. Young lady, how dare you spend $7,500 on my credit card without my permission on three useless dresses to fill in a closet that is already filled with your trashy previous clothes. Honey, if you don’t stop this behaviour this instant, I will cancel your trip to Singapore. Girl:...

PROMOTING RENEWABLE ENERGY

"We simply must balance our demand for energy with our rapidly shrinking resources. By acting now, we can control our future instead of letting the future control us."   – Jimmy Carter, 39 th President of the USA. It’s a peaceful morning when you wake up. You make a cup of coffee and go outside to get some fresh air. You notice that the air is fresher, the skies are clearer, and the world has turned into a better place to live in. It feels like a dream, but it isn't just a dream; it's a future, a path we can achieve by promoting renewable energy, which is today’s topic. Renewable energy sources, which can be replenished in like no time, such as solar, wind, and hydro power, are not only sustainable but also essential for our planet's future. In 2023, renewable energy accounted for nearly 30% of global electricity generation. That is a significant increase from previous years, showing that the world can and is gradually shifting towards cleaner energy sources....

THE IMPORTANCE OF TIME MANAGEMENT FOR STUDENTS

Time is the school in which we learn, time is the fire in which we burn.                 - Delmore Schwartz An aspect of life that runs out if not handled properly: time. And, its management is essential in every way and for everyone, let it be a working adult or a studious student. Good Morning to our respected Principal, our dear teachers and my fellow friends, I, Uttarayan, am present to help you get on your feet and start to learn time’s importance and how to manage it, because it’s something that slips from our hand and into the darkness from where retrieving it is futile, unlike money or possessions which can be earned again.   First of all, what is time management? And, it doesn’t mean to take a sheet of paper, draw up a table, write some subjects you have to study every day, paste it onto the wall, and then go back to watching reels and shorts. No, it means to break your time in a way that it aligns with the comple...

SIMPLICITY IS THE ULTIMATE SOPHISTICATION

The greatest ideas are the simplest ones. - William Golding [SITUATION] : Competitor 1: Hey, look at that bridge made out of only glue and sticks, you think it’d last? Competitor 2: No way! It couldn’t even hold a single bottle if it wanted to. I bet it will break in the first five seconds when he puts the bottle on the bridge, you know! Competitor 3: Hey hey hey! We’ve got no competition at all! Look at our bridge, how sturdy it is! Student 1: Everybody’s saying that I won’t even win. They could be right, my idea is so simple, maybe it would break in a few seconds, if I put the bottle. < AFTER THE COMPETITION> Student 1: Thank goodness, it didn’t break! Judge 1:  We’ve overlooked everybody’s projects, and we are impressed by many! But, there can only be one winner in this game! And, ladies and gentlemen, I proudly present to you this year’s annual winner, first place is racked by the person who made the “popsicle and glue” bridge. Second, is by the ang...

SHOULD PHYSICAL EDUCATION/GAMES PERIODS BE MANDATORY IN SCHOOLS?

It’s not about winning and losing, It’s about how you play the game. Hey, c’mon, let’s play a little something. Why not volleyball? Please, just this one time. Nonsense, even if you’re not good, you can at least try. Ugh, keep sitting there, and don’t move until the period gets over, that’s your work during PE periods, isn’t it? If schools made it mandatory, how fun would it be? At least you’d get a little taste of playing any sport. By the way, you do need to be in better shape. Ok, I’m not listening to you, now! Get up!! You’re asking me why PE should be good for you? It shouldn’t be good for you, it should be mandatory for you?! And, don’t ask me for a professional opinion, because I don’t have any. But what I can say is, compared to all the people running over there, you look like a potato. Physical activity can help you get rid of all that fat. Truth’s harsh, honey, but reality hits hard. And, you're not good at running, anyway. Cardio’s not good. PE helps, you know! Plu...

THE POWER OF POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS

Why doesn’t it feel like nothing’s going the way you want it to? Like you’re trying your best, but fate keeps driving you away from your goals. It feels tiring, and you want to give up. At that point, you want to just sit and relax and not worry about it anymore. But what you don’t realise is that, if you start to divert from the path you chose for yourself, which led to your goal, you will not achieve the goal, because fate is always trying to test you, to see if you're worth it or not. This is where positive affirmations come in. But what are they? First of all, you know how some people keep saying that the universe keeps listening to every word we say. Well, in most cases, it is quite true. Like, sometimes, I say one or two problems in my mind, and suddenly the solution appears in front of my eyes, minutes later. Like that, if we say something negative, it might also happen. So, if that’s true, why not say something positive that uplifts us and develops our growth? That is w...

MIND : A Beautiful Master or A Dangerous Servant

       1.    Light or dark, we have both.             But it is our choice, which we hold. Should I go out? Should I smoke and drink like my friends are doing? No, that’s bad stuff. It kills you. So, should I start studying, but it’s boring and what if I’m not able to do anything at all? What if I daydream again, like always? It’s futile to think about. Let me just go to sleep and not worry about all this stuff.   2.    The mind has a mind of its own. It is our decision if we let it control. We all have heard of the brain. It is a system of nerves that control every tiny action taking place in our body, let it be a blink or a wink. But, it gives us choices on what to do, just like how a waiter asks you what you would like to eat, because it is always unsure and asks the master, you, for permission. So, let me ask this: if you have heard of the brain, you must have heard of the mind. If so, let me tell you...

SETTING PERSONAL GOALS

Imagine a world where every dream we have is within our grasp, where every ambition we hold is just a step away. This life of yours isn’t as hard as it seems to bend to your will. It's a world we can create through the power of setting personal goals. Good evening to all my fellow speakers over here. Today, we are getting to know what goals are and how we can set our own personal goals. Let’s dive in! Setting personal goals is like planting seeds in a garden. Each goal is a seed that, with care, dedication, discipline, and a strong-willed mind, grows into a beautiful, flourishing plant. But why is it so important to set these goals? Why can't we just drift along and see where life takes us? Which I do all the time. So, 1. These goals give us direction. Think of life as an ocean, and you are a ship that is flowing throughout that ocean without any guide or compass and naturally, these goals are our compass, which guide us towards our dreams and aspirations. They help us ...

STRATEGIES FOR OVERCOMING ETHNIC STEREOTYPES

Hello people, who are all present over here. Today, I will give you a speech on a topic that is kind of relevant to bullying. Now, most teenagers nowadays do a lot of bullying like in high school and middle school based off of looks, which can be pretty mean, considering they don't even know them.   Now, the topic that we are about to discuss is the strategies that are needed to overcome ethnic stereotypes. Now stereotypes, in your day-to-day meaning would be those hurtful assumptions and comments we make, about people based on their looks and colour and be all judgemental, like seriously, the other day, one of my classmates was bullying this guy, and I thought to myself, like is this really necessary, like someone's day has been going perfect and suddenly, you have to poke your nose in, and ruin the rest of the day. But, luckily, there are ways to deal with this!   But before we delve into that, I want you to know that stereotypes are just a mere concept, so th...
