THE POWER OF POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS

Why doesn’t it feel like nothing’s going the way you want it to? Like you’re trying your best, but fate keeps driving you away from your goals. It feels tiring, and you want to give up. At that point, you want to just sit and relax and not worry about it anymore. But what you don’t realise is that, if you start to divert from the path you chose for yourself, which led to your goal, you will not achieve the goal, because fate is always trying to test you, to see if you're worth it or not. This is where positive affirmations come in. But what are they?

First of all, you know how some people keep saying that the universe keeps listening to every word we say. Well, in most cases, it is quite true. Like, sometimes, I say one or two problems in my mind, and suddenly the solution appears in front of my eyes, minutes later. Like that, if we say something negative, it might also happen. So, if that’s true, why not say something positive that uplifts us and develops our growth? That is what positive affirmations are: they are sentences with positivity in them. For example,

·         I am capable of achieving my goals.

·         I embrace change with an open heart.

·         I am enough and I am loved.

They are to be used, but are they enough? No, just spouting such affirmations, without any work, dedication or progress, leads to just meaningless sentences. Instead, you should put some effort of your own. It increases the rate of success that comes with the affirmation. Say, you want to pass an exam. Just saying that you want 100% in it, or pass in it, isn’t going to work. You have to study and revise, and also put your own effort. Remember, “God helps those who help themselves,” and these positive affirmations are a simple interpretation of it.

Also, studies from Stanford University have shown that students who practised self-affirmation exercises performed better academically, especially during high-pressure situations. Even research using MRI technology has shown us that positive affirmations activate areas of the brain associated with self-related processing and reward. It also reduces stress by lowering cortisol levels, as in lowering anxiety or depression, improves our cardiovascular health, and gives us a stronger immune function.

Inculcating positive affirmations is helpful in our daily lives. After doing it, you won’t feel like fate driving you apart from your goals. But some people do not get time to say these positive affirmations during our day. As I said earlier, the universe keeps listening to us at every point in time. So, say these affirmations at those points of time when you are available, like when you wake up, or when you are relaxing. So, let’s infuse some of these affirmations into our daily lives and watch what happens.

Thank you.
