SIMPLICITY IS THE ULTIMATE SOPHISTICATION
The greatest ideas are the simplest ones. - William Golding
[SITUATION] :
Competitor 1: Hey, look at that bridge made out of only glue and sticks, you
think it’d last?
Competitor 2: No way! It couldn’t even hold a single
bottle if it wanted to. I bet it will break in the first five seconds when he
puts the bottle on the bridge, you know!
Competitor 3: Hey hey hey! We’ve got no competition
at all! Look at our bridge, how sturdy it is!
Student 1: Everybody’s saying that I won’t even win.
They could be right, my idea is so simple, maybe it would break in a few
seconds, if I put the bottle.
< AFTER THE COMPETITION>
Student 1: Thank goodness, it didn’t break!
Judge 1: We’ve overlooked everybody’s projects, and
we are impressed by many! But, there can only be one winner in this game! And,
ladies and gentlemen, I proudly present to you this year’s annual winner, first
place is racked by the person who made the “popsicle and glue” bridge. Second,
is by the angle-triangle bridge.......
Student 1: I really thought I had lost it, but I won!
[ESSAY] :
Come on now, I know you also thought it
wouldn’t win! But always expect the unexpected. In this world full of
complexities, intricate details and delicate designs, something as simple as a stick bridge made out of glue can stand out from the rest, because it’s
something entirely different. While others would be trying to make unnecessary
additions to their own, even if it looks cool in the end, the simplest ones are
the most elegant and strong ones. And, simplicity being the ultimate
sophistication, is a timeless and wise way to explain this concept.
Simplicity in its own seems
like making things less complicated, but it’s actually removing the unnecessary
parts to make it more elegant and appealing. A funny example to say this is
when even a 10 skincare routine of girls can’t make the girls look beautiful,
but just a simple wipe of water and soap, and boom, boys are the most handsome
beings on the planet. But, just like light and dark, love and hate, to
understand simplicity, you need to have complexity. Like, a really good story
is when it has multiple characters and incredible plot twists and can be
conveyed to a person easily. Simple, yet efficient.
Simplicity
can be, even applied, both environmentally and creatively. Our excessive use of
non-renewable resources leads to overconsumption and a significant damage to
nature. But, by choosing quality over quantity, the issue’s resolved. And, when
our minds are free to think for themselves, then they overlook all the heavy
complex machineries and can easily look into the core of an idea.
Even effective communication relies on simplicity. Whether explaining something
complex or making a strong argument, being clear, concise and simple really
helps. We can take Martin Luther King Jr.’s speech, ‘I Have a Dream,’ as an
example.
Now,
simplicity is quite awesome, but embracing it in a world full of distractions,
requires effort. And, practices like meditation, breathing exercises,
minimalism, help declutter our space, and show us to focus on what truly
matters.
Simplicity
is the ultimate sophistication. A timeless principle, I must say. It’s not
about being old-fashioned, having an outdated sense of choice, but it is to
keep things elegant and smart, with minimal bugs, as we say in computer
language. Simplicity brings out the beauty of things and helps us be better
people. I hope we adopt the concept of simplicity in our lives shortly, it is also essential to not forget the complexity of what we can do, too.
Simple living, high thinking. - Mahatma Gandhi
