THE ROLE OF YOUTH IN MAKING A BETTER NATION
Youth is the hope of our future bright,
their passion and strength will set things right.
Imagine a world where young minds take
charge, drive change, and shape the future. History gives us inspiring examples
of youth-led movements, like the Civil Rights Movement in the US, Fridays For
Future in Europe, etc. Today, the responsibility lies with us, the today’s
youth—to be the architects of a better nation.
Good morning, respected Principal,
teachers, and my fellow friends, I, Uttarayan, am present here to elaborate on
the youth’s importance for today’s world and our potential to shape a better
nation.
The youth of any nation are its backbone.
According to the UN, nearly 16% of the world's population is between the ages
of 15 and 24. In India, youth make up over 50% of the total population. This
demographic advantage gives us immense potential to bring about transformation
in areas such as education, social justice, governance, etc. The energy,
creativity, and ambition of young people can drive progress in ways the working
community of today would take a longer time to think about.
But, better know nothing than know just a
little. Preparation is an essential part to ensure that the youth’s mind works
to its optimum best and education is the most powerful weapon for that purpose.
Studies show that countries with a higher literacy rate have stronger economies
and more stable governments. Youth must take education seriously—not just for
their own personal success but as a tool for societal growth. By acquiring
knowledge and honing our skills, we, full of ideas and purpose, devote
ourselves to contribute to science, technology, and various fields that propel
our country forward.
However, knowledge alone is not enough. We,
also, must use our voices to support for the change we wish to see, not just
put out useless words in a written format. Today, social media has given youth
an exceptional platform to address critical issues like climate change, gender
equality, and poverty. Movements like Black Lives Matter, led by young
activists, have shown that determination and awareness can influence global
leaders to act on pressing matters.
Despite our potential, challenges remain.
Unemployment, peer pressure, and social distractions sometimes hinder youth
from fulfilling their role in nation-building. Yet, instead of surrendering to
these difficulties, we must find strength in ourselves and others. By
volunteering, participating in leadership programs, and being active in
community development, we can overcome such obstacles and inspire others to do
the same.
Let us not underestimate our power. Each of
us has a voice, a vision, and a responsibility. We are not just dreamers; we
are doers, innovators, and leaders. Every great change in history was sparked
by individuals who believed in their vision and took action. The future does
not belong to the older generation alone—it belongs to us, the youth, who will
define tomorrow. Each step we take today—whether in learning, standing up for justice,
or contributing to society—shapes the nation we wish to see tomorrow. So let us
rise, take initiative, and shape a nation that reflects our dreams and
aspirations.
Thank you.
